Work is about to get under way on giving Midland Park a spruce-up. Project Manager Bruce Moorman says the park, which was built in 1982, has deteriorated over the years and needs to be refreshed.

"Midland Park is a popular destination for office workers and an important space in the central city," he says.

"The work will respect the original design of the park, rejuvenate the space and prepare it to a good standard prior to Rugby World Cup 2011."

Bruce says work will include drainage improvements, upgraded lighting, new seats, refurbishing the arched canopy and realigning the main entrance.

"We plan to close about half the site at a time in order to complete the work without closing the entire park," he says.

"There will still be access to the surrounding buildings and businesses while construction is under way."

The work is taking place during spring because the park is heavily used in summer. The upgrade is expected to take about three months and be completed before December and the holiday shopping period.
