Flaming Filming Activities on Freyberg Beach
23 August 2010
If you see strange goings-on in Oriental Bay on a still evening or early morning this week, don't be alarmed.
Wellington City Council staff will be spelling out the fact it's one year to go until Rugby World Cup 2011 in a sign made of flaming letters.
It's all in aid of getting video footage for a national initiative marking this important milestone, to be unveiled 9 September, which is one year until the Tournament kicks-off officially.
The sign, about five metres long and half a metre high, is made of a metal frame wrapped in absorbent wicking material, and will be placed on the concrete wharf blocks at the beach next to Freyberg Pool.
Strict safety precautions will be in place, from the choice of fuel to fire extinguishers and spectator barriers.
