City Housing Art Show

24 May 2010

Head along to Toi Poneke Gallery this weekend - it'll be as though you've walked into a home rather than a gallery.

Council housing tenants have gathered together a wide range of their creations for the gallery's next exhibition, Complex Creative (from this Friday 28 May).

The gallery will be laid out like someone's home. You'll see detailed crocheted dresses dangling from the ceiling, paintings on the walls and individually crafted comics lying around in the corner beneath a shelf with robotic sculptures - as if in a child's room.

The idea for the exhibition came from the community work Council staff are doing in relation to the Council's housing upgrade.

They worked with individual tenants, established groups within the housing community, as well as with Pablos Art Studios and Vincents Art Workshop.

Toi Pōneke Gallery is on Abel Smith Street - just up from Real Groovy. The gallery is open seven days a week, 9.00am - 8.00pm weekdays and 10.00am - 4.00pm weekends.
