Gambling Policy Changes
1 March 2010
Have your say on changes to the Wellington City Council Gambling Venues Policy.
We are consulting on a proposal to amend the current Gambling Venues Policy, which covers the number and location of 'pokie' machines (class 4 non-casino gaming machines) and Totaliser Agency Boards (TABs) in Wellington city.
The proposed changes would set a new population-based limit of one gambling pokie machine per 300 people in the city's suburbs. This would mean that over time, as venues change their licensing conditions, there would be a gradual decline in pokie numbers in suburban areas. The central city would continue to have no restrictions on the number of pokies or pokie venues.
The full statement of proposal, a summary of information and submission forms are available from our Service Centre at 101 Wakefield Street, from Wellington libraries, by phoning (04) 499 4444 or in the Public Input section of this website.
Submissions are required by 5.00pm on Friday 9 April and can be made online. Submitters can choose to speak in support of their submission and these oral submissions will be heard by the Council on 22 April.
