Earth Hour Action
1 March 2010
Wellington households, cafes, hotels, businesses and schools got into the spirit of Earth Hour last year and we're hoping even more will support this year's World Wide Fund for Nature's (WWF's) global climate change initiative.
The hour-long switch-off is set to happen at 8.30pm on Saturday 27 March. As an official partner city, we'll turn off all non-essential lights in Council buildings and facilities and encourage Wellington building owners and managers, businesses and individuals to switch off as many lights and appliances as possible.
It's a great opportunity to think about the changes you can make every day to reduce your energy use, help reduce the city's greenhouse gas emissions - and maybe save yourself some money.
During Earth Hour last year there were candlelit dinners on offer, acoustic music in Civic Square and a range of other great initiatives designed to benefit the environment and raise climate change awareness.
