Schools Back - Drive Carefully
26 January 2010
This week, some of the city's youngest residents will take to the roads as they head off to school for the first time.
Motorists are asked to take particular care on the roads as children can be unpredictable.
City Council Transport Safety Education Coordinator Anna Blomquist says many children haven't yet developed the skills or experience to accurately judge vehicles' speeds and distances, and some are learning how to cross the road for the first time.
"If you're driving, please help make this first week back at school a positive experience. Have a little patience, and if you can, take a route that avoids schools.
"The school road patrollers do a fantastic job, so please work with them and follow their signals."
