Te Ara Hou's Newly Upgraded Units
23 November 2009
The welcome mat is out for Marta Haroon and Lazer Nanno - the first tenants to move back into their upgraded unit at Te Ara Hou Flats in Newtown.
They were among 23 tenants who moved into the newly-upgraded Council units last week. Their move marks an important step in the 20-year programme jointly funded by us and the Government - where our entire housing stock gets a revamp to make it more suited to modern living.
Te Ara Hou is the first housing complex to be upgraded. Improvements include making the flats warmer and drier by installing heaters, double-glazing, new thermal curtains, insulation and ventilation. We've also given the buildings a fresh lick of paint indoors and outdoors, modernised the kitchens and bathrooms and added new front doors.
Outside, there's improved outdoor lighting, landscaping and private gardens for ground floor flats and a new rubbish and recycling system.
