Art Explorer Sculpture Trails
3 November 2009
The kids are hanging out for something to do - how will you fill their Saturday afternoon? City Gallery Wellington and our Public Art Panel have come up with the perfect solution - why not turn them into art explorers?
The Art Explorer sculpture trail booklets are a fabulous new way for children and their caregivers to enjoy public art in Civic Square and the waterfront. Entertainingly written for adults and children, the booklets guarantee some fun hunting out all the public art in the area.
The booklets map out where everything is and challenges children and adults alike to think about each individual work. They explain tricky words like "abstract" and "kinetic" and encourage children to create their own works.
Young explorers can use paper binoculars from the booklets to take a closer look at some familiar and some hidden artworks. Try out one of these sculpture trails - you'll never look at our public art the same way again!
The free booklets are available from the Council reception on Wakefield Street, City Gallery Wellington (Civic Square), the Central Library and the iSite Visitor Centre, or you can print them from the City Gallery website.
