Wellington kids now have many more ways to twist, twirl, swing and climb at five neighbourhood playgrounds. Over the winter, we're been upgrading playgrounds at Khandallah, Melrose, Johnsonville, Brooklyn and Grenada North.
At Khandallah Park, in Woodmancote Road, new equipment includes an enormous rockclimbing structure and a giant spoked wheel that children hold on to and spin around. The rock-climbing structure, called 'Bloqx', looks like three huge boulders stuck together.
The wheel, called 'Gmax', will be installed at the end of the week. A new giant springy seesaw has been installed for smaller children. It can take up to eight children at a time. At the Branscombe Street playground in Johnsonville and the Mitchell Street playground in Brooklyn, old equipment has been removed and new swings installed.
These two playgrounds also now feature a 'Super Nova' - a spinning cone. The Grenada North Park playground has new swings and an adventure fort. At Melrose Park, in Sutherland Crescent, new swings and a spring seesaw have been installed.
