Candidate statement
I believe the MOCM should be focusing on the following:
Roading and driver behaviour on our rural roads.
The escalating numbers of vehicles on our country roads further increases the risks for vulnerable road users such as cyclists, equestrians, walkers and farm stock movements
The increase in the development of tiny homes is becoming more common, and it is important that these comply with the WCC rules surrounding their occupancy.
Sedimentation in the estuary at Makara beach and the constraints around the river mouth being opened or dug out to allow the water to exit the estuary, creates on-going flooding risks for Makara residents.
I believe the MOCB has been successful over the past few years in lobbying for and utilising infrastructure funding to continue to maintain and mitigate risks in the most dangerous stretches of our rural roads.
