Free plants for environmental community groups
The Council encourages community planting by providing free native plants to approved groups carrying out restoration planting projects in council parks and reserves in Wellington.
Early November to 31 December: Order your plants (up to 500). Groups must have prior agreement with the Council regarding the location, preparation and appropriate plants for each site. Council staff can also help choose appropriate plant species for your site.
May to August: Your plants will be ready for planting. You can collect or ask for your plants to be delivered on a Friday during this period.
Order your free plants
Before ordering your plants online, you will need to know:
- which plants you would like to order – see our suggestions in the Berhampore Nursery native plant list
- where you're planting – you need to understand the site conditions
- the approximate date for plant delivery
- the delivery address for the plants.
After you have entered your group name and contact details, you'll be able to save the form and finish later by selecting the 'Save and continue later' link in the grey box at the top of the page.
When you have submitted the form, you'll receive an automated response that includes details of your request.
Plant delivery and collection
All deliveries / collections take place on a Friday. If you want multiple delivery dates please place multiple orders.
Note: We will try to deliver on the date you specify, but this may change.
Smaller quantities of plants (up to 150) can be picked up on Fridays between 8am and 3pm. To do so, arrange this with your Park Ranger and make sure your order has been confirmed.
