Tawa Recreation Centre is a sport and recreation facility for community use and hire.

Karori and Nairnville Recreation Centres are open. Kilbirnie and Tawa Recreation Centres will remain closed until further notice.

Karori opening hours:

If you would like to come in for casual play, please call ahead and make a booking before coming into the facility.

  • Classes and programmes will have a maximum of 10 people, except for a few classes that we can hold in our larger spaces.

  • If  you have made a booking before Alert Level 4 and it is coming up, please contact the facility with the details above, as we have restrictions in place.

Contact tracing/hygiene:

  • Contact tracing is compulsory for every individual entering our facility – please enrol your details at the facility. We will be using our system ‘Envibe’ to contact trace.
  • If you are coming in for casual play, please bring your own equipment. No balls will be provided.
  • Wash hands regularly. Sanitise when entering and leaving the facility. Cough or sneeze into your elbow. Stay away if you feel unwell.
  • Maintain social distancing of 1m.
  • Extra cleaning measures will be in place for high-touch areas.

General:

  • Failure to abide to these regulations may result in your booking being cancelled, and your people being asked to leave the facility.
  • Patience, cooperation and understanding is key.

Hours

Tawa Recreation Centre is open after school, on weekends and during holidays.

Note: These hours can vary depending on bookings - phone the recreation centre for more information.

Activities

We run lots of activities including sports leagues, holiday programmes and birthday parties:

  • Birthday parties
    Available at weekends for pre-schoolers to 12 year olds. Hire a Party Pilot to facilitate fun activities or run your own party. 
  • Ezy Movers
    9.30am–10.15am Fridays. Improve your cardiovascular fitness, mobility, flexibity and strength in this fun, low impact class.
  • Netball league (women) 
    6pm–10pm, Monday and Wednesday social leagues.
  • Preschool Programme – Gym Jam
    9am–11am Sundays. Bring your pre-schoolers along to our fun indoor play land filled with soft, equipment, activities and wheels.
  • School holiday programmes
    A full care programme for 5 to 12-year-olds.

Admission charges

Adult $3.50
Child (0–15 years) $2.00
Leisure Card $1.80
Charges to hire recreation centres vary and depend on your specific requirements. Contact the centre for details.

Hiring the recreation centre

The centre is available for hire to sports clubs, community groups and for casual use. Current activities include:

  • coaching sessions
  • fitness classes
  • gymnastics (bring your own gear)
  • hockey / floorball
  • indoor soccer
  • nukemball
  • spin classes (bring you own bikes)
  • volleyball
