Parking changes from 5 July 2021

As part of the Long-Term Plan, and some other parking projects, there are changes to our parking in the city centre that will come into effect from 5 July 2021.

Below is a list of all of these changes:

Increase by $0.50 per hour across the board to:

City Wide Parking fees - Weekends $2.50 per hour
Increase by $0.50 to $3.00 per hour

Operating hours for metered parking

From 5 July:

  • Monday to Sunday, 8am to 8pm

New locations for metered parking

To be progressively implemented from 5 July 2021:

  • Botanic Gardens
  • Thorndon Pool Carpark
  • Hill Street
  • Oriental Parade
  • Kelburn Parade, Glasgow Street, Salamanca Parade

Changes to waterfront parking

Car parking along the Waterfront is now owned, managed, and enforced by Wellington City Council. Below are the new time limits and rates.

Barnett Street Carpark, Clyde Quay Carpark, P240 time restriction

  • Monday to Friday $5.00 per hour
  • Saturday and Sunday $3.00 per hour

Clyde Quay Wharf and Queens Wharf (by TSB Arena) parking, P120 time restriction

  • Monday to Friday $5.00 per hour
  • Saturday and Sunday $3.00 per hour

Changes to Courtenay Place

During July, 11 parks on the Courtenay Place slip lane will become a taxi and ride-share stand during the below hours of operation:

  • Friday 10pm – Saturday 8am
  • Saturday 10pm – Sunday 8am
  • Sunday 8pm – Monday 8am

There are an additional 4 parks at the end of this slip lane which will be converted into P30 at all times. 

Two static cameras being installed at each bus stop to monitor those who are using this bus stop as a waiting/pick up/drop off area.
