COVID: Services and facilities at Orange

Most Council facilities, offices and services are running, with everyone aged 12 years and over required to wear a mask - unless you hold an exemption card. You do not need to show your COVID Vaccine Pass when visiting a Council facility.

Visiting Council sites at Orange

Wellington is now in Orange settings in the COVID-19 Protection Framework.

For everyone’s comfort and safety when visiting our facilities, please:

  • Stay home if you’re unwell, or if you or someone you’ve been in close contact with has COVID-19 to help stop it spreading. If you need to self-isolate, support is available on the Ministry’s website: covid19.govt.nz
  • Mask – Wear a mask if you are 12 years and over - unless you hold an exemption card. You can remove it to eat and drink in café spaces within our facilities, and when exercising or swimming. You can wear surgical masks, cloth face masks or heavier-grade respirators like N95 masks. Makeshift masks like scarves, bandanas and pulled up t-shirts do no comply with government’s guidelines.
  • Be kind – Most customer facing staff will be wearing masks unless they are not required to for safety reasons, or have an exemption.
  • Be vigilant - Wash your hands regularly and use hand sanitiser.
  • Payments - Use EFTPOS or other contactless payments if you can. We will accept cash but prefer not to for hygiene reasons.

Rubbish, recycling and waste

Rubbish,  glass and co-mingled recycling collections are operating as normal. Recycling collections are fortnightly, so please check the recycling calendar for your next collection date.

With COVID-19 in the community, it’s important to note that there may be changes to our levels of service at very short notice.

Missed collections

If your rubbish or recycling has not been collected on your street on your normal collection day, please leave it out and it will be picked up the next business day.

If it still hasn’t been picked up by midday on the next business day, please contact us on 04 499 4444.

Only official receptacles (yellow Council rubbish bags, green/clear recycling bags, recycling wheelie bins and glass crates) will be collected. We have a good stock of yellow Council rubbish bags at the Arapaki Service Centre, the Tip Shop, and Johnsonville, Kilbirnie, Newtown or Tawa libraries.
