Hataitai intersection traffic lights proposal
The Council would like your feedback on the proposed installation of traffic lights and signals for drivers, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians.

To make it safer for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to cross the busy 4-way intersection, we propose installing traffic lights. The crossroads include Moxham Avenue, Hataitai Road and Waitoa Road.
This intersection, which links the eastern suburbs with the city centre, brings heavy traffic into the suburb. The reason for the change is to improve safety for pedestrians, motorcyclists, cyclists and drivers.
What will the impact be?
Installation will mean:
- widening the road so that buses can safely pass and turn. A total of seven parking bays spread across all four roads will be lost.
- moving pedestrian crossings a few metres further back for pedestrian safety.
We expect installation to take three months starting in the new year.
We’re keen to hear from people who use this intersection, including Hataitai residents, business owners, business managers, and frequent visitors to Hataitai.
