What happened to this consultation?

We asked for feedback from the community on the design concept for the Waipapa Reserve play area.

We had positive feedback on the design and have made some slight adjustments to the plan after hearing feedback from the public.

Waipapa Reserve play area final design February 2022 (450KB PDF)

In the concept design we were trying to accommodate both for the pre-school demographic and the older children that use the space outside of the operational hours of the kindergarten and play groups.

We received more feedback to cater this play area for the pre-school users, so we have modified the equipment to better target the younger user. The main change was to the access to the junior module into steps, and the way this unit is configured overall.

We have worked with the Hataitai Community Centre (HCC) to scope enlarging the lower sandpit, to enable adding seating to the rear of this area, all of which is covered by a shade sail. As the sandpit and shade sail is managed by HCC we will conduct this action separately.

There were suggestions related to retaining or adding the seesaw, the picnic tables, seats, fire truck, tunnel, and the same number of swings, all which we have managed to incorporate in the final design. We had to remove the basket swing from the final design to retain a swing set with two belts seats and two toddler seats.
