Incorporate Peace Symbol onto the sign, "Welcome to Wellington Capital of Nuclear Free New Zealand
In 2004 the original sign on Stewart Duff Drive "Welcome to Wellington A Nuclear Weapon Free City" was replaced with an updated modern version without the Peace Symbol. The new sign was also relocated to the corner of Calabar and Devonshire Road Miramar, without any lighting.
This request comes ahead of the celebrations planned for Wellington's 30th anniversary of being Nuclear Weapon Free as declared by the Wellington City Council on the 14th of April 1982. This declaration was ignored by the USS Truxton on the 25th of May 1982 and the USS Texas on the 10th of August 1983 and was met with fierce opposition and protests by Wellington boaties when entering our harbour.
