About Fleur, our Lady Librarian ...

What does a typical day at work involve?

I work with issuing books, returns, memberships, registering new borrowers and reference enquiries.

I think librarians are amazing as they work with the public every day and are always calm and helpful.

Vanessa Fowler-Kendall, Wellington City Council

Lady Librarian costume designer

What's a highlight of your job?

Being involved in children's programmes and organising a social English group for new migrants.

How do you express your creative side?

I have a little crafting business on the side with my sister. There is also all the doodling and sculptures with my 3-year-old.

What are your three favourite things about Wellington?

  • the harbour
  • that Wellington is so compact
  • the friendly, fun vibe of the people and city

How we created the Lady Librarian garment

Garment materials

Books, computer-keyboard keys, foam core, recycled belt, recycled jacket, recycled wedding skirt, sequins.

Designer's challenges

The skirt is held together with pins and staples, which made it really tricky  to handle.
