Building and resource consents

Burials and cremations

Status: Open for all services via email cemeteries@wcc.govt.nz or phone 04 476 6109. Karori cemetery office is closed to the public
However in keeping with Government requirements that there be no indoor or outdoor gatherings at level 4 of the COVID-19 response, the Karori cemetery chapels will be closed and no graveside services available until the ‘no mass gathering’ instruction is lifted.

Citizens Advice Bureau

Council committee meetings

Status: Wellington City Council meetings, including committee meetings and public hearings, have been cancelled until the end of April.
More info: We will advise new meeting dates and times via newspaper, Wellington City Council web updates and web alerts when possible.

Dog registration

Status: Registration fees are due on 1 July 2020.
More info: Registrations for new puppies or dogs entering Wellington during the lock down will be processed so that we have their details on the National Dogs Database.
We will not charge registration fees during this time.

LIMs

Status: Closed

Local Hosts

Status: Not operating
More info: Local Hosts will no longer be operating on the streets. They are being deployed to work with our outreach support groups and to the CCTV base where they can assist where required.

Noise control

Status: Closed
More info: We won’t be sending noise control officers out to enforce noise complaints for health and safety reasons, unless there are exceptional circumstances. Complaints of noise from parties or gatherings will be passed to the Police as breaches of the lockdown.

Parking and car parks

Status: Not operating in central city or suburbs
Key messages: View news item

  • Metered parking system has been turned off for the immediate future. Parking time restrictions will not apply as they will not be enforced
  • Coupon parking charges will not apply from today through to the end of the lockdown period. Coupon zones will not be actively enforced, but we will respond to complaints about parking.
  • Residents’ parking - people can still only park in a Residents Parking Zone if they have the appropriate permit. We will not be actively enforcing, but will respond to complaints.
  • Clifton Terrace car park will be closed from noon today (24 March) until further notice.
  • Customers who lease parks within the Clifton Terrace car park will still be able to access their parks.

Rates 2020/21 and fourth instalment 2019/20 year

Status: We’re working through some options for rates to ease the burden that people are currently facing.
More info: This includes both the 2020/21 rates and also for the fourth instalment of the 2019/20 year and will be informing the public as soon as we can in order to give people some certainty at this difficult time.

Rubbish/recycling collection

Status: Kerbside rubbish collection only.

Key messages:

  • Kerbside recycling is postponed.
  • Kerbside rubbish collection will continue.
  • Purchasing, orders and deliveries of recycling bags, wheelie bins and wheelie bin clips, and green crates are unavailable.
  • Yellow council rubbish bags can be bought at supermarkets. There is no shortage of stock in NZ, and bags are being delivered to supermarkets within 48 hours of them being ordered.
  • If you are holding on to your recycling, please ensure it is really clean – especially if it has contained food. If you can’t get it clean, we recommend that you put this in your rubbish.
  • We recommend you put milk bottles in your rubbish bin.
  • Paper and cardboard can be stockpiled safely.
  • Stockpile glass bottles, but ensure that they are rinsed.

Library customers can access a range of online resources at wcl.govt.nz/elibrary. This includes ebooks, newspapers, movies, and online courses.
We will automatically renew any items currently on loan and will waive any overdues related to the closures. Please keep items at home until our libraries reopen.
