Improvements to Tinakori Village

4 August 2014

Thorndon is one of Wellington’s most celebrated historic areas and we want to enhance that with a few improvements to Tinakori village.

We’ve been talking with local retailers on how best to highlight the heritage of the village and work starts this week.

Along the main shopping route on Tinakori Road, we’ll be laying some new pavers featuring quotes from creative people who lived in the area, including Rita Angus, Katherine Mansfield and Douglas Lilburn. A sign with historical information, as well as two new seats, will be installed.

Also on Tinakori Road, we’ll be laying new sections of kerb and resealing parts of the footpath. Ascot Street will be resurfaced and there will be some maintenance work replacing kerbs and resealing the footpaths on Lewisville and Upton terraces.

The work will cause some disruption for residents and businesses, and some parking spaces may not be available at times, but we aim to minimise this as much as possible by doing it in sections.

People will still have access to shops, cafés, restaurants and other businesses so we encourage you to support them while this work is in progress.
