School Holiday Fun

1 July 2014

Rain or shine, you’ll have no problem keeping the kids occupied these holidays.

Fun for the kids these holidays

Our recreation centres (Karori, Nairnville and Tawa) and ASB Sports Centre run dedicated school holiday programmes for kids aged 5–12. There’s a mix of activities – sports and action, arts and crafts, theme days and trip days, loads of fun and all-important down-time.

ASB Sports Centre also offers sporting skills for 8–13 year-olds, netball and basketball programmes, and holiday adventures for pre-schoolers. To book these or any of the school holiday programmes, go to Holiday Programmes.

If you want to get the kids out of the house for a couple of hours, try these free activities: budding artists aged 7–12 can paint like Michelangelo at your local library (see Wellington City Libraries) and young gardeners (5–12) can meet a curator at the Botanic Garden and discover how plants are used for medicine – see Botanic Garden Events Calendar.

Outdoors, why not explore the city’s parks, reserves, walkways or coastline. Download these free apps from our website – Welly Walks for i-Phones or My Parx for all smartphones – to find out where to go. There are also plenty of buggy-accessible walks. Kids on bikes can give the new bike park at Island Bay a spin.

For a night-time outing, join the glow worm walk at Otari-Wilton’s Bush on Friday 11 July (see Otari-Wilton's Bush Events Calendar) or head to Zealandia for their Kids’ Night Adventures – check the details at Zealandia.
