Celebrate New Zealand Music Month

6 May 2014

Throughout May, we’ll be bringing 25 singer-songwriters and bands to perform around the streets of Wellington’s city centre to support New Zealand Music Month.

Performers will include musical luminaries such as Rio Hemopo, Justin Firefly, Amiria Grenell and up-and-comers like Kitty Hart and Nadia Reid.

KJ Smith, Events Coordinator for the Council, says we’re lucky to have so many talented and gifted musicians living here. “The idea behind New Zealand Music Month is to spread the word about who’s out there making music, so this year we’re literally bringing Wellington music to the people.”

Joe Blossom will be part of the festivities. He describes himself as an international artist who hails from Wellington.

“All music is local to somewhere. Great music is located in the heart and that’s what makes it universal. Wellingtonians love music. It’s expressed in the number of live venues and galvanised by a Council that champions creativity in the arts,” says Joe.

If you’re a Wellington musician, you can rock out on us. Toi Pōneke is celebrating New Zealand Music Month by offering a free music studio session for every paid session.
