Quakecheck is a professional assessment of parts of your house to see if they need strengthening. A qualified builder will check the chimney, foundations, piles, bracing, roof tiles and hot water cylinder.

You’ll get a written report and an indication of how much any strengthening work might cost.

The assessment costs $160 and takes between 30 minutes and two hours depending on the size and design of your house. The service complements our free guide – Earthquake strengthen your house – available on our website or from our service centre.

If you’re the DIY sort and want to start strengthening, you can pick up a Pryda strengthening kit from Bunnings, Mitre10 or Placemakers. With fixings and fittings for up to 20 piles that will help keep your home on its foundations, getting a kit is cheaper than buying all the items individually (kits are approximately $390).
