Soul-sister Bella has supported artists such as Fat Freddy’s Drop, Dave Dobbyn, Hollie Smith, the NZSO and Aaradhna. She returns to Wellington for one of our biggest summer events and will be followed on-stage by R&B singer Rosita Vai.
Rosita rose to musical fame as New Zealand Idol winner in 2005 and in 2006 was nominated for Best Female Artist at the Pacific Music Awards. Since then she has performed at the Rugby World Cup 2011, walked the boards as an actor and is working on her new album.
Suzanne Tamaki, the Council’s Events Coordinator for Festivals, can’t wait to join the crowds at Waitangi Park.
“These two talented divas are among New Zealand’s most entertaining performers and we’re so excited to welcome them to the Pasifika stage.”
The big and varied line up also includes performances from Pasifit Fitness instructors, a Tongan brass band and a selection of the Pacific’s finest films; along with loads of fun activities for the kids.
For those who want a ‘hands on’ experience, you can learn about tivaevae at a demonstration with Cook Island Mamas; make an ei katu with Mary Ama, or get your hula skirts on and take a hula dance lesson.
Positively Pasifika 2014: We are the Ocean welcomes artists from Cook Islands, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Niue, Samoa, Tokelau, Tonga and Tuvalu. So be sure to come, share and celebrate the rich tapestry of Pacific cultures, and sample culinary delights.
