Community Updates

 

Vanuatu

 

-The Prime Minister of Vanuatu and his delegation visited New Zealand after an invitation from the NZ Prime Minister in early August 2016. The Wellington Vanuatu Community gathered together in the evening and welcomed the Prime with his delegation and discussed a lot of political issues-one of them the West Papua to be independent from Indonesia.

 

-The 29th July 2016 saw the successful fundraiser of the "Tanna Movie" a multi-international award winning film that sold out the 430 seater cinema at Paramount Theatres in Wellington as organised by Leina Isno and a team of expats. The Co-Director of the Film Martin and the Vanuatu Cultural Director JJ were present as part of the showing.  All proceeds went to UNICEF NZ for the Children of Vanuatu.

 

-The 30th of July 2016 saw our whole NZ wide congregated with our Season Workers in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty at the local Marae with the Tangata Whenua to celebrate the 36th Vanuatu Independence Celebrations. It saw the strengthening of our relationships with the people of the land.

 

-The 7th of September 2016 saw our Dr Pala Molisa presented to the NZ Parliament our petition calling on the Government to address the ongoing human rights of situation in West Papua. He was supported by the MP Catherine Delahunty, Marama Davidson, Louisa Wall and Su'a William Sio. -The PNG Wellington team organised a successful quiz night fundraiser to help celebrate the upcoming 39th Independence Celebrations to be held on the 16th September 2016 in Auckland. The Melanesians gathered and had a fun evening.
