Tawa Community board
My principal place of residence is in the Tawa Community Board area.
I have lived in Tawa as a child, a teenager, a
commuter, a full-time parent, a volunteer
and a local employee. I have lived on both
sides of the valley and volunteered in many
places from Linden School to Arohata Prison
with Playcentre, Mana Tiaki, ‘mainly music’
and many others in between. My longstanding community
involvement was acknowledged with a “Wellingtonian of the
Year (Education)” award in 2013 and at the Tawa Civic Awards
in 2014. My husband, John, is a local GP and together with our
four children, we have a wide range of community connections.
My background in social policy, social work, and community
development gives me a strong framework for understanding how
people and their environments shape each other which I think
would be valuable as we seek to welcome more people into our
community whilst maintaining and improving the characteristics of
Tawa that current resident’s value.
