The Wellington Youth Council meets regularly to provide a voice for young people. It works on youth-related projects and advises the Wellington City Council on issues that affect the city's youth.

The Youth Council's main roles are:

  • to provide a youth perspective on issues
  • to promote and encourage youth involvement in planning and development of Council services
  • to ensure the views of young people are canvassed and conveyed to the Council
  • to provide advice on planning and infrastructure, particularly relating to any direct impact on young people
  • to provide input relating to policy and strategic development.

Membership

The Youth Council is open to young Wellingtonians:

  • aged 12 to 24 years
  • resident within the Wellington City Council boundaries.

Members must be able to work with other people in a team, be proactive and committed to attending regular meetings.

There is a maximum of 20 members, and membership must be representative of:

  • gender
  • mixed abilities
  • geographical location
  • educational level
  • employment / unemployment
  • diverse cultural backgrounds.
