Wellington City Council's Youth Team connects with young people aged 12 to 24 and with youth workers on youth issues, with the aim of making the city a great place for young people to live and work in.

The Youth Team's role includes:

  • advocating for and on behalf of youth
  • creating opportunities for young people
  • helping make Wellington attractive to young people
  • assisting young people to showcase their skills and talents
  • helping young people initiate their own ideas and projects
  • ensuring there is a range of ways young people can make their voices heard and have their say.

Youth Projects & Support

The Council's Youth Team supports projects and events organised by and for young people.

Some of the types of youth projects and programmes the Youth Team helps support include:

  • learning opportunities
  • skills development
  • work opportunities
  • social and recreation projects
  • health programmes.

Youth Participation

The Youth Team ensures young people are involved in decision-making processes inside and outside the Council through Youth Forums and the Wellington Youth Council.

The Wellington Youth Council is another way for young people to participate in local decision-making.
