You can do most of your Council business at the City Service Centre.

Customer service at the City Service Centre

As well as finding Council information there, you can:

• pay rates, Council housing rents, water meter bills, any other Council payments or loan repayments
• apply for hygiene and liquor licences
• apply for land and development approvals including resource and building consents and property reports
• register dogs
• buy rubbish bags, recycling bins and parking coupons
• get information about City Council facilities including pools, landfills, rubbish collections
• report problems or faults with Council services.

Changes to Other Service Centres

Service centres in the following libraries closed 3 September 2009:

• Newtown
• Kilbirnie
• Johnsonville
• Tawa

At these libraries you can:

• buy rubbish bags, recycling bins and bags, and parking coupons
• pick up information and forms.

With fewer people using the service centres (as people switch to paying their Council bills by other methods such as direct debit or online), we've reassessed how people manually pay their bills and the role of service centres.

You can now pay any barcoded Council invoice at your local PostShop using cash, cheque or EFTPOS and you will soon be able to pay City Council Housing, dog registration and sundry debtor invoices at your local PostShop by cash, cheque or EFTPOS.

We selected New Zealand Post's PostShops as they provide more places for people to pay, have an established record of handling bill payments and offer a lower cost per transaction than we can provide in-house.

Credit Card Payments

The City Service Centre accepts Visa and MasterCard for some transactions but not all.

You can pay for the following with your Visa or MasterCard:

• monthly and daily coupon parking
• refuse bags
• recycling bins
• GIS plans
• drainage plans
• sandwich boards
• fire permits
• encroachment permits
• SmartPark

You cannot pay for the following with your credit card:

• water rates
• dog registration
• rents for Council housing

Rates Credit Card Payments

You can pay your rates online with your credit card. If you would like to pay your rates with your credit card at the City Service Centre, staff will access the Council's website and help you with making an online payment.
