Wellington City Council provides affordable housing for people with low incomes and special housing needs.
With more than 2,300 rental units, City Housing plays an important part in the lives of many Wellingtonians.
As well as working with other agencies that provide housing assistance, the Council targets its services to where housing needs are not met by other providers.
City Housing objectives are to:
Tenants can now make payments using their rent and tenant liability payment card. The new card makes Council rent and tenant liability (damage) payments even easier.
An automatic payment order is still the preferred way to pay, but now tenants can also use their payment card to make rent and tenant liability payments at their local PostShop.
In 2007 Wellington City Council entered into a $220 million Memorandum of Understanding with the Government to upgrade its housing properties over the next 20 years.
As a result of the housing upgrade process, City Housing has flats available in a range of locations for fixed term rent. Rental is set at 70 percent of market rate. Applicants who do not fit the usual City Housing criteria are also eligible. For more information, contact the Administration Manager.
