Stanley Banks Bequest

In 1949 Stanley Banks left a bequest to Wellington City Council for children of returned service people from World War II, in memory of his son who died during the war. The fund is administered by Heritage Inc on the Council's behalf.

Value

The fund has approximately $20,000 available for grants each year. Grants are usually between $1,000 - $3,000.

Purpose

Grants from the Stanley Banks Bequest are to assist eligible students with education costs. Tuition can be in any discipline but must be NZQA accredited.

Criteria

Applicants must:

  • qualify for a community services card or demonstrate need
  • live in the Wellington region
  • be children of New Zealand soldiers, sailors or airmen who fought in WWII (grandchildren cannot apply)
  • show that the grant is needed to meet study costs
  • meet all criteria on the Stanley Banks Bequest application form
