The Otari Wilton’s Bush Trust runs monthly walks for members and visitors. Walks are free to Trust members, and cost $3 for visitors.

Winter Programme

  • Sunday 24 August - Ferns From forest floor to tree tops, learn about the many different types of ferns found in New Zealand forests. Meet at the Otari Information Centre at 2.00pm.
  • Friday 29 August & Friday 26 September – Glow-worm Walk Have a night-time look at tree ferns, rimu, rata, crayfish - and glow-worms. Wear good shoes, warm clothing and bring a torch. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the Information Centre at 7.30pm.
    Bookings are essential - phone the Treehouse on (04) 499 1400 before 1.00pm Friday. For cancellations, phone (04) 499 4444 after 5.00pm.
    Cost: $4 an adult, $2 for children.

  • Saturday 13 September -
    Otari-Wilton's Bush Open Day
    As part of Conservation Week, this free annual event includes a native plant sale, talks, walks, refreshments and displays.
    Starts at 9.30am at the Information Centre and runs all day. For more information view the events schedule or phone (04) 499 4444.

  • Saturday 27 September - Bird Watching Bird watching in Wilton's Bush. A one-hour walk on easy tracks. Bring binoculars if you have them and wear good walking shoes.
    Meet at the Information Centre at 2.00pm.
  • Sunday 19 October - Otari Skyline Loop The new Skyline Loop follows the Blue trail up to the skyline and descends by the Red trail. A three-hour walk for the fit - wear stout footwear. Bring waterproof/windproof clothing, a snack and a drink. Meet at the Information Centre at 1.30pm.
  • Sunday 23 November - Visionaries Find out about the men and women (Cockayne, Aston, Martin, Brockie, and Mole) who were responsible for the formation of the Collections. Meet at the Information Centre at 2.00pm.
  • Sunday 21 December - Blue Trail Take a break from Christmas preparations. Walk the Blue trail to the 800-year-old rimu. Meet at the Information Centre at 2.00pm.

Guided Tours

Guided tours are available for groups of all sizes. Experienced guides lead tours that are tailored to each group. Cost: $3 - $10.
