Winter Programme
- Stan Reid's Plots Reviewed
Sunday 28 June, 2.00pm
In 1934, Stan Reid carried out the first comprehensive survey of Otari's plants. Recent analysis of these plots has shown an increase in trees - due to succession or possum control? An easy 90-minute walk, but with some steps. Meet at the Otari Information Centre.
- Step Out and Step Back: Otari as Seen by Job Wilton
Sunday 26 July, 2.00pm
Job and Ellen Wilton came to the backblocks of Wellington in 1860. Bush, bush and more bush - just as well they liked it. Come and walk in their shoes for a while - followed by a colonial afternoon tea. Meet at the Information Centre for this easy two-hour walk led by Kay Poynton. Cost: $3.
- Wellington Rocks!
Tuesday 28 July, 7.30pm
Wellington's rocks and landscape reflect a remarkable geological history spanning hundreds of millions of years. Dr Cliff Atkins from Victoria University presents a fascinating seminar in the Information Centre on "reading the rocks" with special emphasis on the Otari area - how the rocks formed, moved, uplifted, deformed and carved into today's landscape. Gold coin donation.
- Otari's Treasure Trail
Sunday 23 August, 2.00pm
An easy walk along the upper level at Otari, not far from Wilton Road. The walk begins in Job Wilton's reserve and ends at the lookout, where you can enjoy extensive views of original and secondary native forest. The plant species we're highlighting along this walk are native only to New Zealand. Meet at the Information Centre. Cost: $3.
