Official bodies and organisations involved in climate change work:

EECA - Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority The EECA is a New Zealand crown entity promoting a sustainable energy future by raising community awareness of energy efficiency issues and providing businesses and individuals with the tools to make changes. EECA develops programmes to meet the needs of specific markets, often working in partnership with other organisations.

ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability ICLEI, previously known as the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, is an international association of national and regional local government organisations that are committed to sustainable development. The New Zealand ICLEI office, based in Wellington with support from Wellington City Council, delivers the Communities for Climate Protection programme, which the Wellington City Council joined in 2004.

IEA - International Energy Agency The IEA acts as an energy policy advisor to 27 member countries (including New Zealand) to support their efforts to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for their citizens.

IPCC - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change The IPCC is a scientific intergovernmental body set up by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It objectively assesses international scientific, technical and socio-economic material on the risks, impacts, and options for dealing with climate change.

New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development The NZBCSD provides business leadership as a catalyst for change toward sustainable development, promoting eco-efficiency, innovation and responsible entrepreneurship.

New Zealand Climate Change Centre The NZCCC is a collaboration of nine Crown research institutions (AgResearch, Crop & Food Research, ESR, GNS Science, HortResearch, Industrial Research, Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research, NIWA, Scion) and Victoria and Canterbury Universities. It aims to ensure that New Zealand scientists and research bodies are tackling key issues, and developing solutions for adapting to climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The centre will also establish links with government departments, local authorities, producer groups, and industry.

OECD - Organisation for Economic Cooperation & Development The OECD has 30 member states, including New Zealand. It provides information and experience on a broad range of topics to help governments to foster prosperity and fight poverty through economic growth and financial stability.

Grow Wellington - Regional Economic Development Agency Grow Wellington is a council-controlled organisation of Greater Wellington Regional Council that aims to implement the economic development initiatives of the Wellington Regional Strategy.

Sustainable Cities Centre The Sustainable Cities Centre is proposed by Otago, Victoria, Massey, Auckland, Waikato and Canterbury universities in collaboration with Landcare Research, NIWA (National Institute of Water & Atmospheric Research) and BRANZ (Building Research Association of New Zealand). The Centre will work in partnership with councils and communities to develop knowledge to address key urban issues, particularly reducing emissions.

Sustainability Trust The Sustainability Trust is a Wellington-based non-profit charitable trust. It works with local communities to address sustainability-related issues.
