Find out what the Council can help to fund in Wellington.

Local government has an important role to play in promoting the social, cultural, environmental, and economic wellbeing of people and communities.

One way we contribute to this is funding for community organisations and businesses. The funds below are administered by Council and loosely categorised by wellbeing areas.

 

Arts and culture

Arts and Culture Fund
This fund supports arts and cultural projects.

Community Events Sponsorship
This fund supports community events sponsorship.

Contract funding
Contract funding provides organisations with regular ongoing funding within specific funding programmes.

Creative Communities Scheme
This scheme supports and encourages local arts activities.

Living Wage for Events Fund
This fund supports non-Council event organisers to enable them to deliver events that provide the living wage for their staff and contractors.

Tawa Community Grants
These grants provide financial support for community initiatives in Tawa.

Wellington Venues Subsidy
This subsidy helps local community groups hold special events in certain Council-owned venues.

 

Economic and buildings

City Growth Fund
This fund supports initiatives that will contribute to Wellington's economic growth.

Environmental and Accessibility Performance Fund
To encourage economic development and recognise the strategic importance of green certified buildings and accessible design across newly built and refurbished residential and commercial developments in Wellington.

Heritage Resilience and Regeneration Fund
This fund helps owners of heritage buildings to carry out conservation and seismic strengthening work.

 

Environment

Active Transport Workplace Fund
Funding is available for workplace programmes, infrastructure and services that will encourage employees to actively commute to work.

Climate and Sustainability Fund
This fund supports communities and businesses in Wellington city to undertake climate action.

Natural Environment Fund
This fund supports community environmental projects that help grow our natural capital.

Stone Soup Fund
This fund supports the viability and sustainability of established community gardens in Wellington.

Waste Minimisation Seed Fund
This fund supports development of innovative solutions for reducing waste, so that Wellingtonians can be leaders in waste minimisation.

Waste Minimisation Seed Fund – Organics Diversion
This new fund supports the development of projects which divert organic waste from landfill.

 

Social wellbeing

Betty Campbell Accommodation Assistance
This grant is for rental costs for office space in the central city for organisations delivering services that promote social well-being for Wellingtonians.

C H Izard Bequest
This grant helps charitable causes in great need.

Community Venue Assistance Fund
This fund helps with creating community space and venues where services and activities contribute to social wellbeing.

Contract funding
Contract funding provides organisations with regular ongoing funding within specific funding programmes.

Joe Aspell Trust
The Joe Aspell Trust distributes funds to community organisations serving socially disadvantaged young people living in Wellington.

Mayoral Relief Fund
One-off emergency relief is available to people in Wellington who are in need of help in the form of food, shelter and clothing.

Social and Recreation Fund
This fund aims to support projects and organisations that deliver outcomes that improve community resilience, harm reduction, community safety and social wellbeing.

Sports Event Partnership Fund
The Sports Event Partnership Fund has been established to support mid-tier sport and recreation events.

Sportsville Partnership Feasibility Fund
This fund is for the development of sports facilities and partnerships at major sporting and recreation hubs in Wellington City.

Stone Soup Fund
This fund supports the viability and sustainability of established community gardens in Wellington.

Tawa Community Grants
These grants provide financial support for community initiatives in Tawa.

 

Other grants

Other grants supported or administered by the Council include grants for recycling services, energy efficiency incentives, and compost.
