Wellington City Council aims to make it easy for all Wellingtonians to access and participate in the arts. It does this by supporting the arts through funding, arts programmes and advice and by providing venues and facilities such as Toi Pōneke, Wellington Arts Centre.
Arts advisers are available to provide advice and assistance to artists, arts organisations and the wider community. They are also keen to foster partnerships between the artists and the wider community.

Toi Pōneke has a dance studio, meeting rooms, rehearsal space, music suites and a darkroom for hire. It also provides a place for people to attend courses, meet and create. The two buildings on Abel Smith Street house over 35 artists, several arts organisations and a gallery.
Toi Pōneke - Wellington Arts Centre
Wellington has a diverse range of art in public places by local, national and international artists and designers. These are an integral part of the city's built environment and include sculptures, statues, memorials, urban and landscape design, fountains, mosaics and murals. The Council has a relationship with The Wellington Sculpture Trust in the development of public artworks.

Council funds arts and cultural projects and events though a number of grants schemes including General Cultural Grants and the Public Art Fund. It also administers Creative New Zealand funding through the Creative Communities scheme.
