Fee Explanation
- Local Government Act 2002 (LGA) - The Council charges for access to its archives under the provisions of the LGA. The pricing system covers the cost of preserving and making available the records. Archives are unique, often fragile, and by law need to be retained permanently. They require significant resources to organise, preserve and ensure future access.
- Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA) - Requests for information under LGOIMA relate to current information. If such requests result in use of archival records, however, any charges relating to accessing those records will be determined under the pricing system established by the Archives, in accordance with the Local Government Act. LGOIMA provisions do not overrule the right of Council to charge for access to archives under the LGA.
