Central City

Byrd memorial, Mount Victoria
Byrd Memorial and the interpretive panels on Mount Victoria can be reached from the summit car park.

Northern suburbs

Te Ahumairangi Hill, Northland
Also known as Tinakori Hill, the path to the lookout off the Northland end of Orangi Kaupapa Road, has a wheelchair-accessible gradient. The lookout has good views of the city, a picnic area, and interpretive panels explaining the hill's history.

Southern suburbs

Central Park, Brooklyn
From the main entrance of Central Park, a level well-formed path follows Moturoa Stream to a series of wooden bridges. Return to the main entrance at the deck area past the bridges as the path rises steeply after this point.

Tawatawa Reserve, Owhiro Bay
Tawatawa Reserve has a flat circular walkway made of clay and gravel.

Southern Suburbs - Tawatawa Reserve Loop

Western suburbs

Karori Park
Karori Park has a flat asphalt path around the perimeter.

Wrights Hill, Karori
Wrights Hill can be reached by wheelchair up a zig-zag path from the car park. This reserve provides impressive views of the city and is well-known for its extensive World War II fortifications.

Buggy-accessible walks

All the following walks have good track surfaces, but some parts may be steep:

  • Mount Victoria ridgeline from the summit car park to Mount Alfred saddle, down to the corner of Alexandra Park and return.

  • Mount Alfred saddle to the velodrome, then follow the Hataitai to Newtown Walkway to the dog exercise area and the mountain bike skill area. The return trip can be made along Alexandra Road.
  • Te Ahumairangi Hill (Tinakori Hill) has four-wheel drive tracks along the ridge that can be reached from car parks in Weld Street in Wadestown, or Orangi Kaupapa Road in Northland.
