Newlands Community Centre

The Newlands Community Centre is now up and running. Wellington City Council constructed the centre when Wellington's Northern Growth Management Framework identified this area as requiring additional community facilities.

Location

The new community centre is located at 9 Batchelor Street, in Newlands, at the rear of the Newlands Shopping Centre.

Facilities

The centre is a multi-purpose facility and includes:

• toy library
• cyber library
• drop-in space
• meeting rooms
• performance space
• outdoor half-court
• plenty of facilities for young people

Background

Construction of the centre began in January 2008 and was completed in November the same year. A public meeting was held in August 2008 to discuss the operation model for the centre, and a frequently-asked-questions sheet was distributed.
