Plan of redesigned Cog Park
An upgrade of Cog Park by Wellington City Council was completed in December 2007.
Redevelopment of the 1.2 hectare park north of Hataitai Beach began in March 2007 with rearranging of rocks around the edge of the reclaimed land area. Seven dilapidated buildings were removed and replaced by two purpose-built club buildings, constructed and owned by the Wellington Cadet Centre Trust.
Access
Access to and from the park has been improved. A new car park around the park's edge includes two mobility car parks, located at each end of the parking area. An associated manoeuvring area has made parking easier and safer.
The park connects to Hataitai Beach by a wide gently sloping ramp with steps to the large open space area.
Park Features
The park features a large open grass expanse anchored by trees in the corners.
An avenue of Maori Princess pohutukawa trees lines the wide path running the length of the park. The main path is surfaced with limestone chip and lit to ensure safe lighting.
Footpaths cross the park from the parking area out to the coastal edge. An informal walking track on the coastal edge links to a seating area overlooking Hataitai Beach.
An all-weather court area is located next to the boatshed building. This includes a variable height rotating basketball / netball hoop at each end, and a tennis net hinged on one side.
A new boat ramp has also been constructed.
