Johnsonville Sewer Upgrade

Return to List Print Page
Johnsonville Road.
Johnsonville Road

The Council has started work on a $2.2 million project to upgrade the main trunk sewer through Johnsonville.

The existing sewer is overloaded due to considerable development in the area over the past 50 years.

The sewer runs the length of Johnsonville Road and continues down Ngauranga Gorge. It collects wastewater from central Johnsonville and parts of Newlands.

Construction

Construction started in April 2007 and is due to be completed by the end of February 2008.

Work is currently in the final stage of construction. A new sewer is being laid in Disraeli Street, and all the properties along Johnsonville Road are being connected to the new trunk sewer.

Traffic Interruptions

To minimise interruption to traffic, work will be done outside peak traffic times and at night when possible. During construction, speed restrictions may be in place.

Two lanes of traffic will still be able to flow in both directions at peak times and at least one lane at off-peak times.
