Late-night crowds on Courtenay Place

These 12 projects / proposals concerning the Courtenay precinct are either underway or being investigated:

  • 24/7 Central City Liquor Control Proposed amendment to the Liquor Control Bylaw that would affect the entire central city area. Aims to reduce public place drinking and alcohol-related harm in the control area - to increase safety and reduce street litter.
  • Alcohol Accord Establishment of a city-wide Alcohol Accord with key stakeholders to guide development of future programmes and collaboration on ways to address alcohol misuse, and resulting harm.
  • Closed Circuit Television Installation of CCTV coverage at hot spots across the central city to improve surveillance capacity - to identify problems and provide evidence.
  • Additional Walkwise staff Two more Walkwise staff on duty at peak times in Courtenay Place.
  • Pedestrian street lighting upgrade Better pedestrian lighting.
  • Flexible revitalised streetscape Improved accommodation for day, night and event needs.
  • Late-night taxi management Changes in rules for passenger pickup; new taxi stands and signage.
  • Summer concert programme Inclusion of Courtenay Place Park for licensed performers and vendors.
  • Courtenay Place Park heritage building Determine a new use for the former men's toilet building.
  • Courtenay precinct officer A dedicated officer working with residents and businesses to promote development.
  • Peak-time bus priority Parking / traffic flow changes to prioritise peak-time bus movement.
  • Staffed police kiosk A feasibility study.
