Wellington City Council can supply scaled maps or GIS (Geographic Information Systems) data to the public.

Scaled Maps

Scaled maps up to and including A3 size can be created and customised to meet your requirements, while you wait, at the City Service Centre.

Common map layers include:

  • aerial photos
  • contours
  • addresses
  • services (water, sewer, stormwater)
  • parcel boundaries and legal descriptions.

Contact the GIS Operations team for maps larger than A3, which can take up to two weeks to process.

Maps are supplied as either:

  • printed paper copies
  • PDFs.

Charges apply.

GIS Data

GIS data is available as separate layers in raster format (such as aerial photos) or vector format (such as water pipes).

Raster formats:

  • TIFF
  • JPEG
  • MrSID

Vector formats:

  • ESRI Shapefile
  • ESRI Geodatabase
  • CAD DXF

The Council provides the following GIS data for free:

  • Wellington City Council Services data:
    • water
    • sewer
    • stormwater
  • Land Information NZ (LINZ) data (CRS):
    • parcels
    • road centrelines
    • address points
    • suburb boundaries data.

Some terms and conditions apply:

Charges apply for other GIS data services, which can take up to two weeks to process.
