Wellington city

Wellington City Council would like your help with the development of a 30-year framework for Wellington's central city. We want to hear:

  • what you think about the central city
  • what you like or don't like about it
  • how it could be improved over the long term
  • what the priorities should be.

Individuals and organisations constantly make decisions that influence how Wellington's central city grows and changes. To help with this decision making, the Council needs to:

  • develop a vision of the sort of central city we all want
  • identify what our central city is about - its purpose, its role in the global market, and our priorities for it.

Aims & Outcomes

The Council wants to:

  • make sure Wellington continues to be a thriving centre for jobs, shopping, culture, entertainment, tourism and major events
  • celebrate Wellington's status as New Zealand's capital city
  • look at how we do business with our partners and how we manage infrastructure and property
  • look at what guidance we need to provide.

The final framework will:

  • provide a future vision for the central city
  • identify key issues and opportunities
  • offer a coordinated direction for investment in the central city.
