Wellington City Council would like your views on the revised draft plan that sets out a long-term vision for the future revitalisation and redevelopment of Newlands town centre.

We hope to encourage more people to visit, live and work in the area.

Proposals

The draft vision for Newlands centre proposes:

  • a wider range of shops and services
  • a more people-friendly area with better quality public spaces and improved pedestrian connections
  • key principles to help guide change
  • a mix of possible development opportunities.

Two concept plans show the vision over different time frames. The short-term plan:

  • looks ahead five years
  • incorporates a potential supermarket
  • includes car parking and public space improvements in and around the main shopping area.

The long-term plan looks ahead 20 years and presents some development ideas.

The concept plans show redevelopment possibilities for key sites within the centre, many of which are privately owned. The outcome will depend on the development plans of private landowners, but the aim of the centre plan is to enable and help guide private investment.
