Election Results - 2008 Electoral System Poll

Voting in the poll to decide which electoral system Wellingtonians will use to elect their Mayor, Councillors and community board members for at least the next two local body elections closed at 12 noon on Saturday 27 September 2008.

Final results:

Votes for STV (Single Transferable Vote) 22,214
Votes for FPP (First Past the Post) 21,733
Informal votes 15
Blank votes 60
Total votes counted 44,022

The result of the poll is binding on the Council and therefore the 2010 and 2013 local body elections in Wellington city will be held by way of the STV electoral system.

A decision on which electoral system will apply for the 2016 and subsequent local body elections in Wellington city can be reviewed next in 2014 (in time for the 2016 local body elections).
