Event Volunteer Programme

Wellington has hosted some of the biggest and most successful events in New Zealand. Part of the secret of the success of these events has been the dedicated volunteers who've helped make them happen.

Volunteer with us

Many of our city’s biggest and most successful events depend upon event volunteers, these have included Rugby World Cup 2011, the Hobbit World Premiere and Prince Charles' royal visit.

Volunteers are the backbone to the numerous events we get involved in and without volunteers we just couldn’t do what we do.

Some of the events we regularly get involved in:

  • Hertz Sevens
  • Rugby Test Matches
  • Wellington’s Summer City Programme
  • Hurricanes and ITM Cup matches
  • AMI Round the Bays

What being an event volunteer involves

Event volunteers can also get involved with public events like city and community festivals, parades, and all sorts of sporting, cultural and art events.

Volunteer roles in events include the following:

  • public Information
  • spectator services
  • marshalling
  • drink station attendants
  • logistics
  • pre-event office assistance
  • registrations

Personal testimonies from our volunteers

"Thank you for the opportunity, it was great.  The people were so nice and I cannot remember when I last received so many hugs and thanks about what we were doing."
Meri - Hertz Sevens 2013

“Thanks again for the opportunity to help out with this fun event, beats working at my 'real' job!!”
Stu - The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey world premiere 2012

"It was a real pleasure to have the opportunity to help during the Great Rugby Road Trip. The highlight of the day for me was to see the little ones trying so hard to be as good as or even better than their AB’s heroes in every activity that they were involved in. The weather was just perfect; I had a very enjoyable time. Looking forward to upcoming events."
