| Victoria Taylor, wearing her own creations |
|
Wellington women are voting for Victoria Taylor's stunning jewelled concoctions with their feet. Since she moved Tory Jewellers to a street frontage on The Terrace in 2003, her store sales have leapt from 30 percent to 50 percent of her business, keeping her and her staff of two busy in the adjoining workroom.
Victoria welcomes city traffic jams, when her window displays of jewellery draw the covetous eyes of stalled female motorists. The tiny shop is full of her creative necklaces and earrings. Unabashedly ‘girly’ in her approach, Victoria’s designs use lovely and unusual combinations of pearls and coloured gemstones, yellow gold and silver.
Victoria credits a large part of her success to her fellow Wellingtonians. “People so want you to succeed,” she says. “I have received an enormous amount of encouragement.”

Recently, she designed a necklace for the final Oscar night sequence of the movie Paparazzi - to accompany an evening gown designed by her sister Rebecca, a celebrated New York fashion designer.
Victoria is in the vanguard of fashion with her original and ultra-feminine designs, which she says are bought by working women of all ages who know what they want.
