Earthquake Recovery Information Centre (ERIC)
ERIC is here to help – the one-stop shop called ERIC (Earthquake Recovery Information Centre) helps people and businesses to recover after the November 2016 earthquake.
Advice and support at ERIC
At ERIC, the objective is to ensure information can be sourced from all the key agencies and experts to help businesses and individuals deal with post-quake issues quickly and more easily. Some of the expert advisors who can be called upon include members of:
The centre also has increased accessibility for people with impaired vision through the use of the Blindsquare app and beacons. ERIC is conveniently located at 131–135 Lambton Quay, for more details and other important earthquake recovery information see the Earthquake Recovery Map.
The centre can offer help and advice with:
- support packages
- earthquake preparedness,
- business and employment support
- and health and welfare.
The Ministry of Social Development has extended a support package for quake-affected businesses. Please check its website for more information.
The Red Cross has launched a damaged home grant to help residents whose houses have been either red or yellow stickered, or for residents who had to evacuate their home for 7 or more days following the quake.

The District Health Board is also assisting individuals who are suffering from distress following the earthquake with counselling facilitated through Victim Support. For more details, see: DHB-funded Counselling Information Sheet (278KB PDF).
